My grandmother had this fabulous necklace when I was a kid...I remember thinking that the beads were giant diamonds. At some point the chain broke and she never had it put back together. About five years ago, I went to a beading shop and chose some beads that would complement hers and they helped me make a fancy three-tiered necklace. Sadly, it was too fancy for me. In five years, I've only worn it once.
I got it in my head recently that I should re-mix the necklace into something a little less fancy. I made it into one giant necklace that can be worn long or doubled. It can also be worn as a super-bulky bracelet! This may not be the final state of the necklace, but for now it fits my style and I know it will be worn much more than it was before. I think Mamaw would like it :)
the larger beads are my grandmother's...
a bad shot, but an idea of the original style...
the new necklace is so long that i couldn't get a good shot, but this is about 1/3 of it...
very crafty. now you can wear your grandmother's beads a lot more often! I have dozens of necklaces and I'm not sure why bc I've always been a "bracelet girl"
i wish i had done this sooner...i wore it tonight and got so many compliments on it. and i'm a pretty sentimental person, so wearing something of hers is priceless.
